Sofned is built around a single conviction: that the best software still comes from senior engineers who care about the long term. We stay small on purpose, so the standard never slips.

Our Story

A senior practitioner, working with senior practitioners.

Sofned was started to do the work the way it should be done: small, senior, embedded with the business, building systems that hold up over years rather than launches. No juniors learning on client time. No layers of account management between the engineer and the customer.

Today the studio runs as a senior-led practice. Every engagement is led end-to-end by an engineer who has shipped this kind of system before — supported, where it makes sense, by a tight bench of trusted senior collaborators. When you email Sofned, your reply comes from the person doing the work, not a sales layer in front of them.

We stay deliberately small. Growth would dilute the standard. We turn down more work than we accept, and we'd rather refer you elsewhere than take on a build we can't do justice to.

Principles

Six commitments that shape how we work.

  1. Senior-only

    Every line of code, every decision, every meeting is led by a senior practitioner. We do not staff juniors on client work.

  2. Written first

    We write architecture decisions, diagnoses and trade-offs down. Documents outlast projects and outlast people.

  3. Outcome over output

    We are paid to make the business work, not to ship features. We will tell you when not to build.

  4. Long horizons

    We optimise for the system five years from now, not the launch demo. Decisions are made for the system you'll still be running long after we've handed over.

  5. Honest small

    We stay deliberately small. Growth would dilute the standard. We turn down work to keep the bar where it is.

  6. Stewardship

    When we leave, we leave the system better understood, better documented, and easier to maintain than we found it.
